Spyker retires in the 7th hour at Sebring

The Spyker C8 Double12 R (# 48) entered by Spyker Squadron, completed 87 laps faultlessly except for some light damage to the aluminium nose in lap 1 when Norman Simon was hit by an LMP.

In lap 87, however, the rear wheel bearings failed necessitating repairs which took about an hour.

Upon its return in the race the brakes required additional bleeding and the car was given assistance in the pit box. In lap 102 the clutch required adjusting and the car set out again at 4.30 pm Norman Simon driving. During the next lap however an engine failure occurred and the car retired at 4.37 pm.

Victor Muller, Spyker CEO: “We had certainly hoped to finish this race so retiring in the 7th hour is admittedly a disappointment. However, it is only our third endurance race ever and we have a steep learning curve. We will use all data collected here to prepare for Le Mans in the best possible way”.
