Drive problems for Team Orange Spyker
Le Mans live race update 14 June 2003 22:00
Team Orange Spyker was balancing on the edge of retirement, but the race seems to be saved for the Dutch outfit. Tom Coronel suffered from drive problems and came to a standstill just before the entry to the pits. "When I changed down at the Dunlop curve (just after the pits) suddenly there was nothing. With a slipping clutch I managed to continue until the Porsche curves. By then all the drive was gone. Fortunately the road goes down from there so I could make it to the entry of the pitlane. Just before the yellow line I stopped and had to push the car from there. The marshals stopped me from pushing the car into the actual pitlane because it was too dangerous. On the starter motor I managed to get it in finally so we can start to repair the car and continue the race. The team is now busy to change the gearbox. When that will be finished Tom will continue his stint.

After a tyre change Tom Coronel took over from Norman Simon. Tom was set to do a double stint, which equals finishing two tanks of fuel. Something that takes 14 laps for most cars, so also for the Spyker.
Norman Simon mentioned no notable problems with the car. "Our biggest problem is the heat in the car. The chassis is that hot that my feet are almost burned.
