Technical gremlins hamper qualifying progress for Team Orange Spyker
Le Mans live update 11 June 2003 24:00
Team Orange Spyker had a troublesome start to its Le Mans weekend. During the two qualifying sessions the team suffered from electrical and setup problems. On his first outing Norman Simon called on the radio that the battery charger was not functioning. He brought the car in an the team changed the alternator. Before he got back out of the pitlane Norman called again that the problem was still there. Another pitstop was made and this time the battery was changed. Simon did some more laps before handing the car over to Tom Coronel who had his first taste of the Spyker today.

"Basically the car is OK, just some oversteer in the fast corners. This should be no problem for the race, but we have to be a bit more careful in qualifying when we are driving on the limit", Norman Simon said after his first outing.

Just like his german teammate Tom also had electrical problems. "All laps on the dash started to lighten up. I took no risk and came back to the pits". Between the two session the team made some changes to the setup of the car. "We competely changed the settings of the springs and the stabilators. The result was incredible. It is a completely different car now. I think we can drive a solid race pace with these settings", Tom said.
Tom Coronel's session was cut short when the session was stopped for some time due to a spin of the Pilbeam car. Hans Hugenholtz resumed in the Spyker when the session was restarted. This way all drivers have now driven their obligatory qualifying laps in the dark.

The fastest time of the day was set by the Bentley of Tom Kristensen, followed by its sister car in the hands of Johnny Herbert. Team Orange Spyker is currently in 48th place, but hopefully the team can move up some places in tomorrow's session. Of course we will keep you updated at this place about the progress of Team Orange Spyker so keep coming back here!
